Euthanasia Bill Still Poses a Danger

Euthanasia and the danger that it will be legalized in Canada will be discussed at a coffee and dessert evening being hosted by Halton Pro-Life’s neighbour, Hamilton Right to Life, on Thursday February 11. The main speaker is Alex Schadenberg, Executive Director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. in the Nicholas Mancini Centre, 44 Hunt Street, Hamilton, (behind the Christ the King Cathedral on King Street, just before the ramp to the 403).

The debate in Parliament on the Bill (C-384) has been delayed by prorogation. Alex says that this gives us time to contact MPs again. Some MPs oppose the Bill because they believe it lacks sufficient safeguards against abuse, not because they oppose euthanasia and assisted suicide in principle. 40 Days for Life Vigils, Toronto and Guelph

From February 17 to March 28, local communities will be among many cities across Canada and the U.S. joining together for a dynamic coordinated pro-life mobilization: 40 Days for Life. This will consist of:

40 days of prayer and fasting;
40 days of peaceful vigil;
40 days of community outreach.

Abortion Clinics Close after 40 Days for Life Vigils

As a result of 40 Days for Life vigils five abortion clinics have been closed in the U.S., eight abortion clinic employees have left the business, and one has joined the vigils herself. Vigils are planned for the Spring in Ontario. For more news on the success in the U.S., click here . . .

Permissive Sex-Education Increases Teen Pregnancies, Abortion

Sex-education programs promoting abstinence have been demonstrated to work in reducing teen pregnancies, according to an analysis by the American Life League of recently-published research by the Guttmacher Institute, the research arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. In Canada, the Canadian Federation for Sexual Health (CFSH), the Canadian branch of the International Planned Parenthood Federation, supports Canadian Youth for Choice, which also claims that abstinence-only programs fail to reduce pregnancies.

Youth Supporting Life: Created, Called and Sent

A Culture of Life Student Conference with the theme Youth Supporting Life: Created, Called and Sent will gather students from all eight Halton district Catholic high schools as well as from other separate high schools across the Hamilton Diocese on Friday, February 12 in Hamilton. The main speaker is Father Tom Lynch, National Director, Priests for Life Canada who will address the issues of abortion and euthanasia.

Induced abortion is a significant risk factor for breast cancer. This is not news to anyone familiar with pro-life, but what is new is that this has now been stated in a paper by the (U.S.) National Cancer Institute co-authored by a scientist who had previously claimed that the absence of a link had been scientifically “established.” Read more here . . .
