Halton Catholic District School Board Gains Culture of Life Award
The Halton Catholic District School Board has been selected to receive our Halton Pro-Life Culture of Life award for 2010 in recognition of the great work that has been done in the Catholic high schools of the Halton Region in educating and inspiring students on pro-life.
We will present the School Board with our plaque to the Director of Education, Michael Pautler, at a meeting of the School Board on Tuesday, March 23, two days before the Halton Pro-Life AGM. This gives us the opportunity to express our gratitude and appreciation to all Trustees of the Board’s work in support of the pro-life cause. It enables us to do so in the presence of the members of the public who attend School Board meetings.
The School Board meeting will be held at 8 p.m. in the Board offices, 802 Drury Lane, Burlington.
Pro-Life Clubs
In their letter to Mr. Paulter of congratulations, the Halton Pro-Life Directors wrote: “Usually, this is awarded to an individual who has shown outstanding dedication to promoting and championing the pro-life cause and advancing the Culture of Life. This year, because of the growth of the pro-life clubs in the high schools of the Halton region and the Board’s encouragement of the students to become active for the pro-life cause, we believe that the Halton Catholic District School Board more than deserves this recognition.”
Among recent pro-life events at the schools:
- An annual Culture of Life conference for high schools across the entire diocese was attended in February by 300 students. Culture of Life conferences had been held for several years across the Halton region, led jointly by teachers and chaplains and Halton Pro-Life. These have since blossomed into the annual diocese-wide events.
- A Culture of Life seminar at Holy Trinity School in November, 2009, gathered students from all eight Catholic high schools
- Notre Dame high school held a pro-life day later in February, addressed by Theresa Gilbert, of the National Campus Life Network, and Angelina Steenstra of Silent No More.
A group of teachers and chaplains will be taking students to the March for Life in Ottawa during May.
These are just a few of the more visible events and learning opportunities that are on-going for the students in the schools - making the entire Halton Catholic District School Board an exemplar of pro-life education and a worthy recipient of the award.
