Youth throng Ottawa to show MPs they want a pro-life law

May 31st, 2011

More than 15,000: that’s the official figure from Campaign Life Coalition president Jim Hughes for the number of people who thronged Parliament Hill and the streets of Ottawa for the 2011 March for Life. As it has been every year, the turnout this year was a record. And the number of young people made this “a youth movement,” in the words one of them.

Father Ted Colleton

April 27th, 2011

Father Ted Colleton, a pro-life hero for more than 30 years in Canada, died peacefully at the age of 97 in his native Ireland on April 26. Father Ted brought an irrepressible good humour to the fight for children in the womb and people threatened by euthanasia. Campaign Life Coalition national president, Jim Hughes, told Lifesitenews: “”He was a wonderful example, giving everything he had for the unborn and vulnerable. He never rested.” Now he has gone to a well-deserved rest.

Abortion in Canada and Ontario: worse than we thought

April 13th, 2011

For every 100 babies born in Ontario, 37 are aborted. For teen abortions, the figure is much higher: for every 100 babies born to Ontario teenage girls, 152 are aborted.

Two out of five women who had abortions had more than one. About one in five teens aged 15 to 19 who had an abortion had more than one.

These statistics are greater than the figures release by Statistics Canada and the Canadian Institute for Health. They were compiled by a study known as the POWER report.

Two articles analyzing and commenting on this situation are available on this website: one published by Catholic Insight and the other by Andrea Mrozek, Manager of Research and Communications, Institute of Marriage and Family Canada.

Baby Joseph and Pastor Joshua: vital lessons to be learned

March 16th, 2011

Baby Joseph, an Ontario one-year-old, would have died in the London, Ontario, hospital where doctors wanted to remove a breathing machine against his parents’ wishes. He was taken to a hospital in the U.S. where an alternative treatment will be attempted.

Pastor Joshua, an Etobicoke minister, suffered brain damage from a heart attack and the Brampton hospital wanted to cease nutrition and hydration.

These two cases raise the question: should hospitals be allowed to override patients’ or parents’ wishes in life-and-death treatment decisions?

They also help us understand what is euthanasia and what is not.

For my opinion, please read my blog., Tom Kelly, Executive Director

The human realities of abortion: speakers at Halton Pro-Life AGM

March 3rd, 2011

Halton Pro-Life’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 30, at 7:30 p.m. in St. Gabriel Parish Centre, 2261 Parkway Drive, Burlington.

Guest speakers are Jim Kaine and Keila Matthews.

  • Jim Kaine is the loving grandfather of two grand-daughters who has, he says, “a heart that is saddened” because he mourns two other grandchildren he should have had. He suffered the loss of those two more grandchildren when his daughters each decided to abort their second children.
  • Keila Matthews’ story is happier. She became pregnant while single and resisted her boyfriend’s preference for her to abort her baby. She is due one week before the meeting so we hope she will be able to bring her baby.

Jim and Keila will share with us the human realities of what it feels like to be pregnant and anxious or scared, what it feels like for parents and grandparents to lose the chance to love a child, and what it feels like to overcome all fears and, with the help of a loving family, to find the courage to give life.

On the agenda of the business section of the meeting:

  • 2010 Audited Financial Statement approval
  • 2010 Executive Director’s report
  • Election of Board of Directors
  • Culture of Life Award
  • Refreshments and fellowship

Please call to reserve a place: 905-632-3232 or email haltonprolife@cogeco.net
